Unapologetic country music with a red dirt flare best describes independent singer-songwriter & recording artist, Derek Posey. Writing real country music for working class people is his natural craft fueled by life experiences growing up in a blue-collar family in Newark, OH where folks aren’t strangers to factory work and swinging hammers. Lyrics derived from a “no mans too good to run a shovel” attitude, paired with overdriven guitar tones and lonesome pedal steel overlays, force a fresh breath of life into the traditional country music genre that many think is dead and gone.
Derek Posey was born and raised on the outskirts of Newark, OH. After finishing a college football career at Trine University in the fall of 2013, Derek purchased his first guitar and taught himself how to play to fill his spare time during his last semester. Three chords and a couple broken strings later, he found himself playing rhythm guitar in a college bar band that was formed at 2am at a local dive bar the night before their first gig. Once graduation day rolled around in May 2014, Derek moved back to Mt. Vernon, OH where he formed The Derek Posey Band. From 2015 to 2019 the band cut their teeth in bars, clubs, festivals, & corporate events across the U.S. in cities like Denver, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, & San Antonio. Derek has opened for a list of country hitmakers including John Michael Montgomery, Aaron Tippin, Lee Greenwood, Craig Campbell, & Ray Scott.
